The Phuket Vegetarian Festival, held annually across Phuket during the ninth lunar month as confirmed by the Chinese lunar calendar; this year it falls between 10th and 18th October. The festival is a Taoist-inspired celebration of purification and renewal, honouring the Nine Emperor Gods, where devotees observe a strict vegan diet and abstain from alcohol, violence and indulgence. Spectacular rituals include firewalking, body piercing, and processions through streets lined with loud firecrackers, creating an intense yet deeply spiritual atmosphere.
